Completed application card must be returned to City Hall, City Clerk's Office, by 4:30 PM, Monday, November 7, 2016, with a $40 non-refundable application fee.

 

 

Attendance is mandatory at the Orientation Program:

If you do not attend the mandatory Orientation Program you will not be allowed to continue the application process for Entry Level Firefighter/Paramedic.

(Use North Entrance for Cafeteria)

 

No one will  be admitted after testing begins.

 

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY LEVEL FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC

  1. AGE:  You must be under 35 years of age.

  2. SEX/RACE/NATIONAL ORIGIN:  City of Chicago Heights is an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.

  3. EDUCATION:  You must have a High School Diploma or GED Certificate

  4. GENERAL PHYSICAL CONDITION:  You will be required to complete Certification for the Physical Aptitude Test within one year before being hired.

  5. CERTIFICATION/EMT:  At the time of your application you must be certified as an EMT.

  6. CERTIFICATION/PARAMEDIC:  Candidates must be certified EMT/PARAMEDIC by The South Cook County Emergency Medical Service System at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, Harvey, IL and the State of Illinois prior to being hired as a Firefighter for the City of Chicago Heights.

  7. RESIDENCE:  Residency is not required to apply. Residency in the City of Chicago Heights is required within 12 months from date of employment.

City of Chicago Heights will be held on:

Bloom High School Auditorium

10th & Dixie Highway

Chicago Heights, IL

 

Applicants are encouraged to bring their spouse, fiance, or other significant person to the Orientation Program.

 

At the orientation, information is provided to the candidates with respect to the tests to be given, the substance of the examinations, and passing point necessary to successfully complete the various examinations.

 

A senior member of the Fire Department will describe the departmental organizational structure, the duties which will be assigned to the candidates upon appointment, and generally give the candidates an idea of what the candidate should expect if he or she is appointed to the Chicago Heights Fire Department.
