The Village of Cary, IL is seeking a visionary leader for its next Police Chief.
With a population of 18,271 (2010 census), Cary was founded by William D. Cary in 1833 and was incorporated in 1893. The Village is located in picturesque McHenry County and is approximately 45 miles from downtown Chicago and 30 miles from Chicago O’Hare International Airport. With its small town character and professionally provided Village services, the Village of Cary offers many opportunities for its next Police Chief. While Cary is a community with a long history of success, the Village is focused on the future.
The Cary Police Department provides a full range of police services. The department has a current staff of 28 full-time sworn officers/supervisors, 4 civilian personnel, 1 part-time employee and a $4.2 million budget. The Police Department also participates in many cooperative public safety programs and mutual aid agreements to maximize efficiency and reduce costs in providing public safety to our citizens.
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or other related field (masters degree preferred) and a minimum of 7 years of supervisory/command experience. The Village will also consider candidates with a combination of experience/education.
The Village would prefer that the Chief reside within 20 miles of Cary.
