The Village of Cary Illinois, population 18,713 a full-service community located Northwest of Chicago, seeks experienced police professionals as candidates to lead its Police Department consisting of 29 sworn officers and 4 civilian employees. Cary’s police department is recognized as a being professional, well trained, with employees dedicated to the community’s safety.
Cary historically maintains a very low crime rate and a friendly hometown atmosphere, with beautiful neighborhoods and excellent schools. The Village offers a diverse housing stock, accessible transportation, excellent recreational opportunities and outstanding municipal services.
The Village is seeking candidates with strong leadership skills, experience in Community/Problem Solving Policing, and with a proven record of visibility and participation in the community. Candidates must be committed to training, professional development and community engagement.
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business administration, public administration, communications, or related field. Candidates should also have at least five years experience in a law enforcement manager or leadership position or an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the requisite skills and abilities to effectively perform the duties of Police Chief. A Master’s degree and/or advanced executive level training are also highly desired. Candidates must possess well developed interpersonal communication and public presentation skills.
Appointment is made by the Mayor of Cary with approval by the Village Trustees. The Police Chief reports to the Village Administrator.
Starting Salary Range:
