Salary:

$13.00 -$15.00/hour

Coordinate all radio communications for the Police and Life Safety Departments and the zoo in general.  Answer calls coming into the station and dispatch other police units accordingly.  Provide emergency medical aid to guests and employees.  Provide information to guests and employees and responsible for day-to-day operations of the police dispatch desk.  Perform clerical and operational support for the Police and Life Safety Departments.  
 

• Associates degree in General Studies, Criminal Justice or related field or equivalent combination of training and/or experience required

• Minimum 1 to 2 years experience preferred in police/EMS dispatching and guest relations

• Emergency Medical Technician certification required or received within a 6 month period from hire date

• Must remain current in Emergency Medical Services continuing education

• Must be able to handle emergency situations calmly and be able to work at all levels of the emergency response

• Must be flexible and able to respond and adapt to changes and shifting priorities

• Position requires rotating days off, varied starting times working weekends and holidays and other schedule changes due to Special Events

• Proficiency with computer spreadsheet applications and word processing skills required

• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access) preferred

• Ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple projects and priorities

• Must have a high level of energy, be self motivated, possess excellent verbal/written communication and organizational skills

• Must promote excellence in customer (internal and external) service standards

• Valid Illinois driver’s license for Illinois residents within 30 days of hire

• Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents

• Fluency in Spanish or other second, non-English language a plus
