Enforce and
administer the enforcement of park rules; regulations, state, federal and
local statutes
Prepare field
reports and required paperwork, in accordance with established procedures
Adhere to work
schedules defined by the department using a rotating schedule including
weekends and holidays
Follow
instructions and directions given by the command staff
Respond to
basic inquiries from Park Safety Officers and follow up as needed
Patrol the
park and adjacent boundaries using a patrol car, cart, on foot or bicycle or
with a dog as assigned
Respond to
dispatch calls for routine and emergency situations
Direct traffic
inside and outside the park, as assigned
Appear in
court as necessary
Assume
administrative responsibilities for assigned area(s), including, but not
limited to: vehicle maintenance, uniforms, equipment, communications, Life
Safety, and public relations
Follow
appropriate safety and procedural rules
Keep work area
and equipment in a clean and functional condition
Must represent
the Society in a professional manner at all times
Open, close,
and secure buildings and facilities; gates; and parking lots
Pick up and
deliver monies between Cashier's Office and park locations
Provide
positive public relations, and respond to inquiries and requests for
information
Assist
motorists with vehicular problems
Monitor
facilities, parking, and adjacent properties for safety, hazards, and security
Maintain order
and investigate suspicious activities of guests and employees
Determine
course of action, reprimand or warn individuals, detain or expel from park,
and/or arrest and book persons committing crimes in violation of applicable
statutes, and, as appropriate to the situation
Transport
arrested individuals to appropriate jurisdictions for further processing as
necessary
Administer
first aid treatment for injury or illness, including but not limited to:
monitoring life signs, stabilizing victims, transporting individuals to
hospitals via driving, or assisting in ambulance
Requirements:
Associate's
degree in Criminal Justice or other related field or equivalent combination of
training and/or experience required
Minimum 2
years security or loss prevention experience required
Minimum 1 year
patrol officer experience preferred
Prior work
experience at Brookfield Zoo with better-than-satisfactory performance
preferred
Must complete
and pass to minimum standards Police Academy training within one year of hire
Must attain
certification of State of Illinois Emergency Medical Technician status within
1 year of hire, and maintain current certification
Valid Firearms
Owners Identification Card required at time of hire
Ability to
utilize common security and other department equipment, including, but not
limited to: medical equipment, extrication, supplies, and other emergency
equipment; typewriters, and computers
Ability to
successfully interact with a diverse audience, maintain confidence and have an
excellent rapport with co-workers and guests
Must represent
the Society in a courteous, professional manner at all times; maintain
excellent public relations, strong communication and collaboration skills
Valid driver’s
license required
Illinois
residents must possess a valid Illinois license within 90 days of hire
Valid
out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents
Spanish
fluency a plus, but not required
This is a
full-time position which includes rotating weekends, evenings, and holidays as
assigned
