Entry-Level Police Officer Hiring Process

The Village of Bridgeview, Illinois Personnel Board is accepting applications for the position of police officer with the Bridgeview Police Department.

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Bridgeview:

  • U.S. citizenship;

  • No felony convictions (Note: a misdemeanor or serious traffic offense may also disqualify applicants from further consideration);

  • Minimum of 23 and 1/2 (23.5) years of age AND shall be under the age of 35 by the application deadline date (March 8, 2017) unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in Illinois State Statute (Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police Commissioner's Act);

  • Have 20/20 vision in both eyes -OR- correctable to 20/20 with corrective lenses in both eyes;

  • Valid state-issued driver's license;

  • Have completed sixty (60) earned semester hours from an accredited college, university, or junior college with at least a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale -OR- Possess a High School Diploma (or GED Equivalent) -AND- two (2) years of active duty military service, not terminated in a dishonorable discharge status -OR- four (4) years of service as a certified part-time police officer. (NOTE: The Board has the sole discretion to determine whether an applicant's service as a part-time police officer satisfies the requirements of appointment);

  • Possess a valid NIPSTA (P.O.W.E.R. Test) card ľOR- equivalent criteria as per the State standard (such as Triton Community College or Joliet Junior College), issued within 12 months of the application deadline date (March 8, 2017) -AND- must be presented no later than the date of the written exam;

  • Must successfully complete a mandatory orientation, written examination, oral interview, physical exam, and background investigation;

  • Must successfully complete a medical physical (including drug and alcohol screening), psychological evaluation, and polygraph examination;

  • Pay a $45.00 non-refundable application processing fee;

  • Attend a mandatory orientation and written examination testing on Saturday, March 18th.

  • Applications MUST be submitted online by Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 4:00 PM (CST).
