Police Officer Minimum Requirements:

  • $50 non-refundable application fee;

  • U.S. Citizenship or Legal Resident;

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) AND one of the following:

    • Successfully completed 30 hours of Law Enforcement Studies at an accredited college or university,

    OR

    • Successfully completed 60 hours of General Studies at an accredited college or university,

    OR

    • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time employment with a municipal law enforcement agency as a sworn police officer

  • Valid driver’s license

  • **21 to UNDER 35 years of age at application deadline (10/31/11)

  • Must not have been convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanors, as defined by Statute

  • As a condition of employment, applicants must reside within the boundaries of the following counties within the state of Illinois: Cook, DuPage, Will, Kane, Lake and McHenry

  • Submit the City of Berwyn Employment Application and all required release forms and documents to Public Safety Recruitment on Monday, October 31, 2011 by 12 noon Central Standard Time (CST)

 

**Applicants who are 20 years of age as of 10/31/11 may apply ONLY if he/she has successfully completed 30 hours of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university.

 

 

Application Instructions:

 

1) Visit www.publicsafetyrecruitment.com to download the paper application for the position of Police Officer.  Application must be completed and submitted to Public Safety Recruitment no later than 12 noon CST on Monday, October 31, 2011.

 

2) Return signed release forms and requested documents (see checklist, attached) before 12 noon CST on Monday, October 31, 2011 to Public Safety Recruitment, Attn.: BERWYN PD, 1127 S. Mannheim Rd., Suite 203, Westchester, IL  60154. Applications and required documents received after 12 NOON CST on October 31, 2011 will NOT be accepted.  Faxed release forms will NOT be accepted. Documents may be delivered by hand or by mail; traceable courier (i.e. UPS, FedEx, etc.) is suggested to ensure timely delivery.

 

3) Attend Mandatory Orientation and Physical Ability Test on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Morton West High School, 2401 Home Ave., Berwyn, IL 60402. Doors open at 7:00 a.m. Orientation begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. - NO ADMITTANCE AFTER 8:00 a.m.  Must present a valid Driver’s License or State ID to sign in. Candidates who submit the application and required documentation properly and by the application deadline will be invited to attend the mandatory orientation and Physical Ability Test. Public Safety Recruitment will send out notifications via email the week before the orientation.

 

4) Only those who successfully pass the Physical Ability Test will be invited to attend the Written Exam on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Morton West High School, 2401 Home Ave., Berwyn, IL  60402.  Doors open at 8:00 a.m.  Candidates should arrive no later than 8:45 a.m. with photo identification (valid Driver’s License or State ID) to sign in. The written exam will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. - NO ADMITTANCE AFTER 9:00 a.m.  NO EXCEPTIONS!
