The Village of Bedford Park is accepting applications for the establishment of an eligibility roster for the position of Telecommunicator.

*Starting base salary for 2009 is $36,059.99 plus employee benefit package.

(For qualifying experienced dispatchers salary up to $36,951.55)

Applicants must attend a mandatory orientation followed by a written exam on Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 PROMPTLY at 6:00 pm at:

or be disqualified from further consideration.

A typing test and oral interview will follow at a later date to be determined.

The position must be able to receive and prioritize emergency calls from the 911 Center.

Duties include dispatching police, water and public works departments.

Other responsibilities include:  Monitor alarms, teletype communications and process warrants.

Positions include weekends and holidays and must be able to work any shift.

1. Each applicant must be a citizen of the United States and be able to read, write, speech and understand the English language.

2. Each applicant must be at least 21 years of age.

3. Each applicant must be of good moral character, never been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, or temperate habits, physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of the position applied for with or without reasonable accommodation.

4. High School diploma.

5. Each applicant shall submit, with his/her application, certified copies of the applicant’s birth record.  (NO PHOTOCOPIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.)

6. Each applicant must return the fully complete application, along with all required supporting documents, to the Bedford Park Police Department 6701 S. Archer Avenue, no later than October 13th,  2008 at 8:00 a.m.

7. Other requirements include fast-paced customer service experience; demonstrated multi-tasking & keyboarding skill with the ability to perform in a stressful environment-involving computer aided dispatching.  LEADS Certification and bi-lingual ability is preferred but not required.  Must be able to pass thorough background check.  Requirements also include typing of at least 35 wpm and have excellent communications skills.  Must have the ability to clearly speak without any pronounced accent or speech impediment and write the English language.  Applicants will be subject to a pre-employment psychological and medical exam.  Must be able to pass a one-year probationary period.
