EMERGENCY DISPATCH SUPERVISOR

 

 

The City of Aurora is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Emergency Dispatch Supervisor.

 

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Emergency Communications Manager or designee and will serve as liaison between the personnel in the 911 Center, sworn officers and Police Department management as well as other City employees, supervisors, management, city officials and the general public.

 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising the daily work activities of the Aurora Police Department Telecommunications Division and its employees;

  • Assisting in scheduling, problem solving and enforcing department rules and regulations;

  • Evaluating performance of Telecommunication Operators;

  • Administering and maintaining training program for new employees

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

Desired skills and experience include:

  • Significant experience in a public safety dispatch center in a multi-discipline (Police/Fire/EMS) environment, with experience in a leadership, supervisory or management role.

 

Requires:

  • Excellent communications skills;

  • Ability to plan, organize, instruct and supervise subordinate employees;

  • Ability to successfully complete all required in-service training programs and all FCC licensing requirements;

  • Ability to operate 911 emergency equipment;

  • Ability to effectively communicate and maintain composure in emergency or stressful situations.

 

The position requires:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of five years progressive responsibility in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;

  • LEADS/NCIC certification, EMD and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain and maintain certification during employment;

  • Experience with computer, radio and telephone systems within a 911 environment, including basic troubleshooting techniques.

 

Preferred experience as a Certified Training Officer.

 

Applicants must successfully complete a background investigation in addition to drug/polygraph tests. Candidates must have the ability to flex scheduled hours when needed.

 

 

Starting Salary:

 

$75,545.60, depending on experience
