LAW ENFORCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

 

 

The Southwestern Illinois Joint Fire & Police Recruitment & Testing Consortium is now accepting applications for probationary police officers.

 

A career awaits you with the Alton, Collinsville, Edwardsville, Fairview Heights, Glen Carbon, Highland, O’Fallon or Troy, (IL) Police Departments. Each agency offers a competitive annual starting salary ranging from approximately $54,300 - $63,200. Officers often receive overtime and annual pay increases.  Medical insurance, life insurance, a retirement program, plus college incentive pay is also available.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be between the ages of 21 and 35.  Exceptions:  1) Candidates who are over 35 and have been previously employed as a sworn and certified police officer for a municipality for any amount of time in any state, are eligible to test, 2) Candidates with Illinois Deputy Sheriff and/or Illinois State Police patrol experience are eligible to test up to the age of 40, and 3) Candidates who are 20 years of age and have successfully completed 2 years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university, are eligible, 4) A veteran shall be allowed to exceed the maximum age provision by the number of years served in active military duty (max of 10);

  • U.S. citizen or an alien admitted for permanent residency or authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Must possess a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain one at the time of appointment

  • Must possess the capability of being accepted into, and successfully completing, a state mandated police basic training academy

 

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. 64 semester credit hours towards a Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s degree in law enforcement or a Bachelor’s degree in any field (applies only to Fairview Heights & O’Fallon); OR

  2. Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree in any field (applies only to Highland); OR

  3. Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement or a Bachelor’s degree in any field (applies to Collinsville, Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, and Troy); OR

  4. Bachelor's Degree, or an Associates Degree in any field and an honorable discharge from active service in Armed Service, or an Associates Degree in any field and three years of full-time law enforcement experience (applies to Alton); OR

  5. In lieu of education requirement: current certification from another law enforcement agency or accredited law enforcement training center (applies only to Edwardsville), or 2 years full time law enforcement experience with a municipal, county, state or federal agency (applies only to Collinsville), or 4 years full time employment as a commissioned police officer or as a military police officer (applies only to Fairview Heights), or current certification as a police officer with a municipal, county, state, or federal agency and a minimum of two years full-time experience (applies only to O’Fallon); or 24/36 months of active duty in the US Armed Forces OR have served 180 days of active duty in the US Armed Forces in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense (applies to Highland, O'Fallon and Troy).

 

Candidates presently enrolled in a college or university, who will attain minimum educational requirements by the completion of the Spring Term of 2017, will be permitted to test.  The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners or Civil Service Commission of each Municipality will make the final determination of eligibility requirements.

 

Rigid agility and physical testing, extensive aptitude, visual acuity, polygraph, psychological and background investigations will be required.  For the upcoming test cycle, candidates have a choice of two orientation and testing locations.  You must, however, choose one location.  Candidates will not be permitted to test at both test sites.

 

Attendance at an orientation session is mandatory in order to apply (September 9 or 24).
