9-1-1 DISPATCHER

The North Suburban Emergency Communications Center, a fully civilianized multi-jurisdictional center located in Des Plaines, receives and dispatches police, fire and emergency medical calls, seeks a full-time (40 hours/week) & part-time (32+ hours/week) 9-1-1 dispatchers.

Duties:

Operation of the 9-1-1 emergency system, computer-aided dispatch system, sophisticated radio and telephone networks.

Minimum Requirements:

• 21 years of age

• Education & experience equivalent to a high school degree

• Ability to speak clear articulate English

• A full range of hearing in both ears

• Type 30 wpm

• Must possess a valid IL drivers license

• The position supports a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation and applicants must have the desire and ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays

Desirable Qualifications:

• Previous experience in public-safety dispatching, multi-line telephone equipment and fast paced customer service

• Flexibility and multi-tasking are paramount

Pay Rate:

$24.98/per hour plus medical & dental insurance plus fringe benefits package. with advancement potential to $36.40/per hour.

Applicants must successfully pass a position compatibility profile, aptitude exams; keystroke/typing test, job simulation exercises, oral interview board, as well as an extensive background investigation, criminal history check, pre-employment screenings, polygraph and psychological evaluation. 

Testing will be held:

Saturday, May 21, 2011 in Niles.

A $30.00 non-refundable application fee in the form of a cashier’s check or money order, made payable to City of Des Plaines, must be submitted with an application.
