ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Comprehending radio transmissions being received over multiple law enforcement radio channels

  • Communicating information effectively

  • Dealing with high-pressure and potentially dangerous situations

  • Effecting arrests, effectively communicating with people of all ages from diverse economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds while providing information and directions, mediating disputes, advising of rights and legal processes and testifying in judicial setting

  • Performing patrol functions, including first-aid/CPR, directing traffic, controlling crowds, performing searches

  • Preparing investigative reports, summonses, warrants and other required forms

  • Loading, unloading, aiming and firing handguns from a variety of positions at levels of proficiency and safety prescribed by qualification standards
     

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline

  • U.S. citizen or proper I-9 documentation

  • At least 21 years of age at time of hire

In addition, requirements for Lateral Agents:

  • Active Peace Officer Certification and at least two years of patrol experience (Abbreviated police training for laterals)
     

Decision-making, integrity, self-control, assertiveness, observation skills, written and verbal communication skills, team player, dependable, adaptable, excellent interpersonal skills, keyboarding skills, the ability to work a rotating shift, including nights, holidays and weekends.  Physical abilities include:  Vision, hearing, standing, balance, lifting, pushing, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, pulling/pushing, climbing, stooping/bending, flexibility, kneeling, carrying, crouching, jumping, squatting, crawling. 
 


Testing includes:

  • Application/Personal History Statement

  • Submission of college transcripts

  • Birth certificate

  • DD-214 (if applicable)

  • A polygraph examination

  • Oral board interview

  • Psychological examinations (pre-offer and post-offer)

  • Background investigation

  • Reference checks

  • Physical and physical abilities test (obstacle course)
     

The cut-off date for submittal of the application packet is April 13, 2007, in order to be considered for the August 27, 2007 Academy.  Application packets received after April 13, 2007 will be considered for the Spring 2008 Academy, and you will be contacted at a later date.
