Located in southwest Los Angeles County, it is adjacent to the Pacific Ocean and borders Los Angeles International Airport. EL SEGUNDO POLICE DEPARTMENTThe El Segundo Police Department has 104 authorized positions, of which 69 are sworn and an annual operating budget of approximately $15.6 million. The department is known for its progressive management and enjoys an excellent reputation as an innovative, professional, and community-oriented law enforcement agency. Development of a state-of-the-art computer-aided communications system and modern police facility are, also, among its many accomplishments. The department has a wide variety of special assignment positions: Motorcycle Officer, Court Officer, Juvenile Officer, D.A.R.E. Officer, School Resources Officer, Investigator, Narcotics Officer, Field Training Officer, Canine Handler, U.S. Customs Task Force, Task Force for Regional Auto Theft Prevention (T.R.A.P.), S.W.A.T. and LA Impact (Los Angeles County-Wide Task Force).
POSITIONS & QUALIFICATIONS POLICE OFFICER TRAINEE: This is a non-sworn, entry-level position. All new hires are required to successfully complete a full-time P.O.S.T. Certified Police Academy of about 26 weeks duration; OR must have graduated from a P.O.S.T. certified police academy within the 1 year period prior to filing of application; OR be currently enrolled in a full-time P.O.S.T. certified police academy with a ranking within the top 10 percentile of your class. Upon the successful completion of the mandatory police academy, trainees may be elevated to the rank of sworn Police Officer at the discretion of the Chief of Police. In addition, candidates must meet the following criteria:
LATERAL ENTRY POLICE OFFICER: Candidates must meet all Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements, must either be currently employed for a minimum of one year by a state, county or municipal law enforcement agency or separated from a state, county or municipal law enforcement agency for not more than 36 months and possess a California Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate. If separated, separation cannot be due to termination or resignation in lieu of termination. In addition, candidates must meet the following criteria:
