EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

                                                                       

 

PARAMEDIC/FIREFIGHTER

 

 

THE POSITION:

 

Under supervision to respond to emergencies and administer first-aid to and transport sick or injured persons to medical facilities within scope of Paramedic certification.  Participates in firefighting activities to protect life and property.  Responds to all fire alarms while on duty and individually when off duty; operates fire trucks, ambulances and related fire equipment; assists in fire prevention activities; performs a variety of routine station maintenance and repair tasks.  The successful candidate should be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

 

Equivalent to graduation from the 12th grade and completion of courses for certification in emergency medical treatment and one year of general work experience.  State Fire Marshal Firefighter I certification required.  Paramedic certificate copy must be attached to application or currently enrolled in a credited paramedic program. Fire experience desirable. Within one year of employment employee must reside within forty miles of the Fire Station.  Applicants shall be non-users of tobacco and shall be required to sign a statement affirming that, as a condition of continued employment, they shall refrain from using tobacco.    

 

Possession of a valid California Operator's License Driver's License issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles; possession of a Class B driver's license within one year of employment.

 

 

THE BENEFITS:

 

$3237-$3935/month, paid bi-weekly.  24-hour shifts; rotating 56-hour week work schedule.  $500/year uniform allowance; Wellfitness Incentive.  Health, dental, and optical insurance for employee and dependents; City pays 75% of Retiree Health Insurance; 100% City paid Medicare Supplement; Degree & Certificate Incentive pay; City paid Life, Long-Term Disability, and Accidental Death insurance for employee.  Annual educational assistance.  The City observes 13 paid holidays/year; employees receive compensatory time for 10 holidays/year and are paid for three floating holidays/year.

 

The City is a member of the California State Employees' Retirement System and pays the employee's share; benefit shall not exceed the limitations in the Internal Revenue Code upon entering the public retirement system.  The City does not pay into Social Security.

 

 

THE SELECTION PROCESS:
