College of the Canyons, located 35 miles north of downtown Los Angeles in the beautiful Santa Clarita Valley, is seeking an Assistant Director, Campus Safety to join our team.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Director, Campus Safety is a Classified Management Position. Under the direction of the Director, Campus Safety works to establish safety protocols, policy, and operational standards. Assumes the responsibilities of the Director of Campus Safety in that person's absence. Patrols campus buildings; protects individuals and controls crowds during assemblies or disturbances, as well as supervises full-time and part-time campus safety officers. This position investigates and prepares written reports on accidents, property damage, fires, law violations, thefts and disturbances of the peace, reviews the reports of subordinates and assumes responsibility for follow-up. Other duties may include gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses; testifying in court as necessary. This position may be expected to work a flexible assignment that may include emergency call outs, nights and weekends. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Four (4) years active law enforcement experience required. Experience in the development and implementation of security, safety, and disaster preparedness and response plans desirable.
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of an Associate of Science degree in Administration of Justice or a related field. Coursework or training in supervision is desirable. One year active law enforcement experience in addition to that identified above may be substituted for each one year (30 units) of college.
Licenses/Certification:
Possession of a valid California Driver's License; Guard Registration from Bureau of Security & Investigative Services; Basic Certificate issued by the State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T 832) or the equivalent, and First Aid and C.P.R. certifications.

College of the Canyons is located in a dynamic and growing community in northern Los Angeles County. The college serves more than 25,000 students per semester on campuses in Valencia and Canyon Country.
Classes are offered during traditional fall and spring semesters, as well as summer sessions and five-week winter intercessions. Students have the ability to choose from 109 degree and certificate programs.
