The Police Captain is responsible for commanding and leading a division of the Police Department; for planning, directing, and coordinating activities of the division; and promoting community involvement.

• Ten years of full time paid experience as a peace officer, including two years as a Lieutenant

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration, business administration, public administration, or related field

• knowledge of organization and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies, and operational needs

• An Advanced California P.O.S.T. Certificate and completion of Management Certificate requirements, and a valid California Class “C” driver’s license are required at time of hire

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, or other related field preferred

• Selected candidate must be in good physical condition and able to successfully complete a required medical examination that includes a psychological suitability examination
