Signing Bonuses POLICE OFFICER/LATERAL AND ENTRY LEVEL APPLICANTS
A $5,000 payment to any lateral entry officer who transfers to the Burbank Police Department from another California law enforcement agency. Half of the incentive will be paid at initial hiring, and the remaining half paid upon successful completion of the one-year probationary period.
Laterals who transfer may apply their years of law enforcement service for the purpose of vacation accrual. For example, a five-year veteran Sheriff’s Deputy who was hired by the Burbank Police Department will begin to accrue vacation at the rate of three weeks per year instead of the two weeks usually awarded newly hired employees.
Lateral applications are accepted and processed immediately.
Note: California POST certification is required.
A $2,000 DOLLAR SIGNING BONUS is offered to any entry level person who is hired by the Burbank Police Department and successfully completes the Police academy and training.

SALARY RANGE
YEARLY SALARY: $61,884 - $75,396
Employees hired as recruits are at the base salary of $4,641/mo. Upon graduation from the academy the above salary range becomes applicable.
Lateral entry officers are generally compensated at a rate equal to or greater than their current base pay as a police officer.
DEFINITION OF THE POSITION: Under direction, to attend a regular basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified recruit academy and will be sworn in as a full duty Police Officer upon graduation; and to do related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: Attends a regular basic POST certified academy designed to provide an entire overview of the criminal justice system which includes training in laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid, and physical fitness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Graduation from high school or equivalent (California POST requires a U.S. High School Diploma or GED).
LICENSE & CERTIFICATES: A valid California Class “C” Driver’s License is required at time of appointment.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 20 years of age to apply and must have reached 21 years of age upon graduation from the academy in order to be appointed as a Police Officer at that time.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be in good physical condition, subject to determination by the City Medical Examiner.
NOTE: Candidates may be required to reside at a location from which they can report to work within one hour. This requirement will not be imposed until six months after the affected employees have completed their initial probationary period.
THE COMPETITION FOR THE POSITION: Applications will be reviewed. Admission to competitive examination may be limited to those whose applications show the best combination of qualifications in relation to the requirements and duties of the position. Any part of the examination process may be qualifying only.
