Become a member of a professional team ready to meet the challenges of the future.  The City of Anaheim invites you to join them in the career challenges offered by an agency which seeks to reflect the diversity of the community it serves.  The Anaheim Fire Department is currently in construction or the final planning phase for four new stations.  The department has an aggressive growth plan that will add sixty or more new line personnel in the next four years.

The Anaheim Fire Department will be testing for Firefighter/Paramedics.  Under moderate supervision individuals participate in all phases of emergency operations, including firefighting, medical care and hazardous materials abatement; performs fire prevention inspection, public education programs, training activities, station and equipment maintenance, and other duties as directed.

Benefits:

• Paid Leave 253.5 hours or 10.5625 shifts per year. (Effective June 29, 2007 – 279.5 hours or 11.6458 shifts per year).

• Anaheim Firefighters receive additional compensation equivalent to 1/10^th of his or her regular biweekly compensation for the twelve holidays identified.

• Uniform allowance – department provides two (2) new NOMEX II uniform sets, one (1) regulation uniform jacket with cloth badge and one (1) regulation uniform belt, leather boots, and other required articles.  Effective January, 2007 a $500 per year compensation for the purchase, maintenance and laundry of approved work shirts, pants, tee-shirts, sport shoes, sheets and pillow cases.

• Bilingual Pay of 5% of base pay

• Up to 7.5% education incentive is available based on level of education and years of service.

• Retirement Program 3% @ 50

• Laterals are eligible for additional steps depending on length and type of experience.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Will have two years paid experience as an EMT-P or member of a municipal Fire Department.

• Must have a Firefighter I Firefighter Academy; must have a current California State Paramedic License.

• Vision:  Far visual acuity shall be at least 20/30 binocular corrected with contact lenses or spectacles.  Must be able to identify red, green and yellow colors.

• Must possess and maintain a valid class “C” State of California Driver’s License and a class “B” Driver’s License by end of probation.

• Will be required to agree as a condition of employment with Anaheim to not use tobacco products at any time during their tenure.

All candidates must complete a City of Anaheim application and Supplemental.  Applications with supplemental will be accepted by the Human Resources Department through FRIDAY, AUGUST 4, 2006.

The selection process will include an application and supplemental review, a written test, an oral interview, a physical agility, employment reference/background check, medical examination which includes a drug/alcohol screening and psychological evaluation.  Failure to state all pertinent information may lead to elimination from competition.  New employees must provide documentation to establish both work authorization and identity.
