The Dover Police Department is one of six agencies authorized to hold police academies in the State of Delaware. Training consists of a multi-phase program that begins with the Police Training Academy session of approximately 6 months, followed by an 10-week Field Training Officer program. After the completion of a 2-year probationary period, officers are eligible for movement into specialized areas based on supervisor recommendations and specialized training. The Dover Police Department continuously provides professional law enforcement training and re-certification to its own officers as well as to officers from surrounding agencies.

Pay & Benefits
Currently, Police Officer Recruits start at a salary of $37,041. After successful completion of the Police Academy and 1 year of service, salary increases to $38,153.
