Department University Police
Time base Full-time. Work Schedule: 3/12 work schedule with varied shifts and days off. Selected applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in the Physical Agility Practice Session on February 15, 2004 and the Physical Agility Examination which is scheduled for February 21, 2004. A written test will be administered at the time of interview.

 
Job Description Under the general supervision of the Sergeant, the Police Office provides enforcement and protective services to the campus and campus community. Handles criminal and non-criminal cases. Makes arrests and transports prisoners. Contacts all witnesses involved in cases. Handles motor vehicle collisions and provides safety escorts for persons and/or month. Patrols the campus and other property owned or operated by the University. Directs and enforces traffic infractions. Writes accurate reports which include accident diagrams or crime scenes.

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of current law enforcement methods, traffic control, and arrest safety procedures. Working knowledge of current criminal codes and laws. Ability to use effective interpersonal skills to resolve a wide variety of sensitive situations. Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Working knowledge of computer and software applications. Selected candidates must be able to pass a medical exam, physical agility test, psychological exam, a thorough background check requiring fingerprint, and a drug test.

 
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a P.O.S.T. certified training program, or able to obtain a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate within one year of employment. Must possess a valid California driver's license.
