Bachelor's Degree required, advanced degree preferred. Additional specialized training such as FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute or Northwestern Center for Public Safety highly desirable. Demonstrated background of career progression including command experience required. Strong leadership and administrative skills, ability to foster and participate in a team environment including the village administration and operating departments, plus an appreciation of future issues facing suburban police departments located in a large metropolitan area is very important. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to work with other jurisdictions and community organizations in an effective manner are considered important.
