WANTED: POLICE OFFICERS

  

The Village of Lansing will be distributing pre-employment application packets for entry level full-time sworn police officers.  Pre-employment application packets may be obtained at the Village of Lansing Clerk’s Office located at 18200 Chicago Ave., Lansing, Illinois, 60438 from 8:30 a.m. on Monday April 7th until noon on Saturday April 19th 2003.  Persons obtaining packets are required to pay a $20.00 nonrefundable administrative fee.  Relevant information concerning the testing process will be included in the packets.  The physical agility/written examination process will take place on Saturday May 10th, at 8:00 a.m. SHARP at Thornton Fractional South High School, 18600 Burnham Ave.

 

The Village of Lansing is a suburban community of approximately 29,000 persons located 25 miles south of downtown Chicago.  Lansing has a nationally accredited police department with 64 sworn officers.

 

Applicants are required to have 60 hours of college credit prior to pre-application packet submission.  Applicants must also successfully complete a background investigation, and all testing requirements.

 

Starting salary for a probationary Police Officer is over $41,000.

 

The following is a list of requirements necessary for acceptance to the position of Probationary Police Officer:

  1. Must be a United States Citizen.

  2. Must be at least 21 years of age, and no older than 34 years of age, except as specified in 65 ILCS 5/10.2.1-6, with a minimum of 60 hours of accredited college credit. Proof of date of birth is required at time of application. 

  3. Must be of good moral character, as determined by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.

  4. No Felony/Misdemeanor convictions, as specified in                            65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6.

  5. Must pass a police investigation of background and character.

  6. Must possess a valid driver or chauffeur’s license.

  7. Veterans must furnish a copy of Military Service          Record/Discharge (DD-214).

  8. Must successfully complete the examination process, as established by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioner’s Rules and Regulations.
