Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must be a United States citizen; have a high school diploma or equivalent; attained their 18th birthday at time of application; have a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets City standards including no more than six points assessed against driving record; have no physical, mental or emotional conditions which could adversely affect their ability to perform the job; must meet the vision standard set by the city; no loss of hearing without normal voice range; speak and understand the English language; no felony convictions unless pardoned; others required by law enforcement standards. This includes either a two year Associate Degree or a minimum of 60 fully accredited college level credits before 5 years of employment. An applicant who has not met this standard at the time of employment shall meet this standard as a requirement of re-certification by the board at the end of his/her fifth year as a law enforcement officer. Individuals successfully completing the examination process will be placed on an eligibility list from which all appointments will be made. Persons appointed are on probation for 252 days worked and may be removed without cause and without any right of appeal. Candidates appointed must become residents of Kenosha County within one month after completion of their probation and maintain such residency during incumbency. Persons hired must comply with all departmental policies and procedures.
The examination will consist of: A written test, physical ability examination, a job assessment, psychological evaluation and medical examination including a drug screen (in accordance with the ADA). The passing grade on the written examination shall be established using acceptable statistical techniques and consideration of the needs of the City. Qualified applicants will be notified of the exact time and location of the exams. Applicants must pass each portion of the examination process. Selected applicants will also be subjected to background investigation of their work history and other factors considered important for success job performance.
Applications close at 4:30 p.m. on November 11, 2002. An application may be obtained at and must be on file, completely filled in, with the City of Kenosha, Personnel Department, Room #205 of the Municipal Office Building, 625 52nd Street, Kenosha, WI 53140. A copy of the applicant's high school diploma or G.E.D., birth certificate and DD214 and proof of disability (if claiming veteran's preference points) must be submitted with the completed City of Kenosha application. Candidates submitting incomplete, unsigned or late applications or failing to return all required forms will be rejected without further notice and will not be permitted to participate in the examination process. The written exam is scheduled for Saturday, November 23,, 2002. The physical ability exam for those receiving a qualifying score on the written exam is Saturday, December 21, 2002. Candidates will be notified of the actual date, time and location of these exams.
Residency in
Kenosha County is required within one month of completing probationary period.
