General Description: Several positions available to provide security services (for either the 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shifts) to the Homewood Campus and off-Campus facilities and activities. Responsibilities include performing uniformed patrols and crime prevention services for the protection of life and property; offering proactive support of student and staff initiatives; developing and maintaining a positive rapport with students, faculty, staff and members of the surrounding neighborhoods; coordinating and cooperating with various University administrators in the preliminary and follow-up investigation of complaints, reporting criminal offenses and disruptions; enforcing University policies and regulations, state laws and Baltimore City Ordinances; overseeing student monitors; writing reports and keeping records; monitoring electronic surveillance equipment and control key access. These positions involve some shift work and rotation of days off with schedule changes to meet security needs. Review of resumes will be ongoing until all open positions are filled.
Qualifications: Completion of entrance level training in an accredited Police Academy, or A.A. in law enforcement; 2 years related experience (equivalent college credits and pertinent life experience may be considered in lieu of formal police training). Must meet MD State Police requirements and investigation for a Special Police Commission and have exemplary background and integrity. Must have valid MD driver's license and excellent driving record; good oral and written communication skills including legible handwriting; familiarity with personal computers and modern word processing software. NOTE: State Police investigation (in order to be commissioned a Special Police Officer), University background investigation, motor vehicle check, physical examination and drug screening must be passed as a condition of employment.
Must be able to work either 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. shift.
Starting salary range - usually from $26-$28K.*
*NOTE: Starting salary may be adjusted based upon length and type of related experience.
