MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS FOR POLICE OFFICER TESTING
High school graduate or equivalent AND
the following criteria:
Serious intent
to complete Colorado P.O.S.T. certified academy and a minimum of 2 years of
college credit (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours with a cumulative grade
point average (GPA) of 2.0) within 1 year of the written exam.
Serious intent as
it relates to being Colorado P.O.S.T certified means the applicant is currently
enrolled or in the enrollment process at a Colorado P.O.S.T certified academy
and become certified within one year of taking the written exam.
Serious intent as
it relates to the college requirement means that the applicant will complete
this education requirement within one year of taking the written exam.
MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT AS A POLICE OFFICER:
High school graduate or equivalent AND
the one of the following criteria:
Criteria #1:
Current Colorado P.O.S.T. Certificate and a minimum of 2 years of college
credit (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours with a cumulative grade point
average (GPA) of 2.0);
OR
Criteria #2: Lateral Entry - Current
Colorado P.O.S.T. Certificate and a minimum of 2 years of college credit (60
semester hours or 90 quarter hours with a cumulative grade point average (GPA)
of 2.0); and three years of current patrol/investigations experience;
OR
Criteria #3: Current
out-of-state, certified police officers must contact Colorado P.O.S.T at (303)
866-5692 and possess a minimum of 2 years of college credit (60 semester hours
or 90 quarter hours with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0); may be
considered for Lateral Entry;

Phase I (applications accepted on
a continual basis)

Applicants meeting minimum qualifications as described above will be
contacted to schedule a preliminary interview and written exam

On site testing accommodations may be made at Colorado P.O.S.T Academies
for those currently attending

Applicants that successfully complete both the preliminary interview,
written exercise and exam will be eligible for consideration to continue in the
selection process for up to one year from the testing date
-
NOTE: Applicants that do not
successfully complete the written exam must wait on year from original testing
date to apply again.
Phase II (initiated as positions
become available)
Successful
applicants from Phase I will be contacted by the Police Division, Professional
Standards Bureau to continue in the selection process:
