The ideal candidate will have 10 or more years of significant increasingly responsible law enforcement management experience as a chief officer, deputy chief officer, or similar command rank in complex municipal setting or equivalent combination of training and experience. In addition, candidates should have a proven record of success in public safety/police service planning, management, community policing, growth and development for a diverse/high service level population ideal. Strong, innovative, administrative, financial, operational, and organizational development skills are important with solid public relations and community policing exposure. Demonstrated skills in leadership, administration, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with the City management, employees, community, regional agencies, and elected officials are required.
A bachelor’s degree in public administration, criminal justice, business or a related field is required and a master’s degree in public administration or similar advanced degree is preferred. The ability to obtain certification as an Arizona Police Officer after appointment, the ability to continuously meet all AZPOST standards and the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Driver’s license are required. Residency is required within 6 months of appointment.
