The Village of Bannockburn is seeking to hire at least one full-time police officer. All applicants must have a minimum of three (3) years police officer experience in the State of Illinois with a Municipal or Sheriff’s Department and meet the other requirements listed below. GENERAL INFORMATION

The Bannockburn Police Department is staffed by 14 sworn police officers – 1 Chief, 2 Lieutenants, 4 full time officers and 7 part time officers. The department also has 2 part time records clerks and 1 bloodhound used for tracking.

 

Bannockburn is located 19 miles north of Chicago along I-94 in Lake County.  The Village has a mix of residential estates, office buildings, retail and industrial areas.  The Village is home to Trinity International University and enjoys one of the lowest crime rates in the state.

 

The Department is a member of the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System EST Team, the Northern Illinois Police Crime Lab, the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group, and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Age: Except as provided otherwise by State Statute or Ordinance, all applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Experience: All applicants must have a minimum of three (3) years police officer experience in the State of Illinois with a Municipal or Sheriff’s Department.

  • Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of the United States and be of excellent moral character.

  • Education: Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Vision: Applicants must have vision of, or corrected to 20/20 in each eye with no color blindness and 100% depth perception.

  • Physical: Applicants must be physically fit and agile with weight in proportion to height and no amputations, which affect or interfere with the nature of police work.

  • Other: Applicants must possess a valid drivers license and have a good driving record.

THE HIRING PROCESS

Applicants must complete all steps in the hiring process to qualify for consideration.

  1. Application

  2. Police Selection Committee meets and reviews all applications for minimum requirements and notifies applicants of Pass of Fail status.

  3. Oral Interview – secondary application with background waivers.

  4. Background Investigation – Hiring list established.

  5. Secondary Oral Interview (if necessary).

  6. Psychological exam

  7. Conditional offer of employment

  8. Medical exam including a drug screen

Benefits

 

Salary Range: $45,000 to $65,000 (5 step process to reach top pay)

1-5 years 12 days (96 hrs)

6-10 years 15 days (120 hrs)

11-15 years 20 days (160 hrs)

16-20 years add one day per year

21 or more 25 days (200 hrs)
